Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival which celebrates the love and bond between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon day of Shravana month every year. In India, this festival is also known as Rakhi Purnima or Raksha Bandhan.
It is believed that on this day Goddess Parvati got her brother Lord Shiva to tie a protective thread around her wrist to stop her from getting hurt by any demon or evil spirit. This thread was called Rakhi and it became a symbol of protection for all sisters in India.
